The immigrant follows up and calls and visits the immigration office weekly during the window asking if their renewal is approved. They keep getting told that it is in process. They ask what to do if it isn’t done in time. They are told, just stay put, keep going to school/work/etc and keep showing up for checkins. Immigration department keeps setting checkin appointments. They ask, do we need to leave? They are told no, just keep doing what they are doing and the paperwork will come through eventually. Then a couple of checkins in, they get deported without notice for being in the country illegally. Did you follow all that? I’m not being insulting, I just know it is a long paragraph most of those coming to our borders on foot are asylum seekers.
